Various Prefer mics have stranded on the trashblitz shores, but sadly, none of them are very good. The company itself is extremely obscure, even though their mics are not exactly rare around here. From what we could gather, Prefer was an OEM seller, active from the late 70s to the early 90s, who offered mostly electret mics. They probably imported their capsules and housings from Japan, judging from the shapes and the sound of their microphones, often reminiscent of Audio Technica or Sony mics and other, cheaper OEM mics. Later on, they might have switched to Chinese suppliers. There were some dynamics for live sound reinforcement in the mix, but their mics were mostly electrets, aimed at tape recording amateurs and video applications – one-point stereo electret fare, you know the kind.
